Why Timberframe?
The beauty and natural warmth of wood grain are highlighted in a tradition of construction dating back well over one thousand
years.
Numerous buildings in various countries from Scandinavia, Britain, Germany, France, Poland over the world to Japan and
China show us many styles and forms of this wooden building method.
To be seen are small peasant cruck homes or massive merchant halls. There are palatial government buildings such as Westminster
Hall in London and ornate pagoda temples such as Horyuji near Nara in Japan, all built with timbers and joinery.
Fashions in architecture continue to change, quality should not. As Canadians we are able to draw from an entire world
of historic example. In using these examples and some imagination we are unlimited in choice, or combination of design. We
are able to create structures that conform with expectations of comfort, structural integrity, and healthy living.
Careful planning and building can suit any need, be it geological requirements or something more personal such as alternate
energy systems.
The study and research of timberframe buildings, on site in their countries of origin has given us a more complete, comprehensive
appreciation and understanding of joinery. The craftsmanship involved is what we strive to continue.
